Butler Library
ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
Butler Library, Columbia University's flagship library, received a series of renovations. They included facade repairs, a low roof replacement, and replacement of structural steel and mechanical equipment on the main roof.
DESIGN FEATURES & SUSTAINABLE ELEMENTS:
- Elevator rehabilitation
- New finishes and updated mechanical and electrical systems
- New communications and fire-safety systems
- Redesigned reading rooms and study areas for both individual and group study
- New lighting, fire-protection and detection systems, and refurbished finishes in the stack 14 rare book collection area
- Complete renovation, with new finishes and upgraded electrical and data systems, in the level 700, 800 and 900 graduate carrels
- Improvements of HVAC and roofing systems
